DIRECTORS
Hanan Abdalla is an award-winning British-Egyptian documentary filmmaker based between London and Cairo. Born and raised in London, she moved to Egypt for the 9 years that followed the 2011 Egyptian revolution and her work is rooted in the relationship between art and activism.
Paul Atenya is a Kenyan film director and storyteller. He studied at Kenyatta University, achieving a BA and MA in film studies. His film JIJI won Best Student Feature Film at the Kalasha TV and Film Awards and the Lake International Pan African Film Festival. Paul also lectures on film at Kenyatta University, Multimedia University, and KCA University.
Tazeen Bari is a documentary director and producer from Pakistan. Her documentaries include The Valleys Our Ancestors Chose, Letters From Death Row, Vote for X, Qandeel and an episode for the Emmy Nominated Vice series WOMAN with Gloria Steinem. Tazeen is also the co-founder of the Documentary Association of Pakistan.
Christine Boateng is a Ghanaian filmmaker and film programmer based in Accra, Ghana. Her work and ideas often draw from her dreams, experiences, memory and intimate stories shared by people. Her work emphasises collaboration and the beauty of belonging in a community and spaces where she can harness her craft. Christine has worked on film and documentary projects such as Tejiri (2023, Producer), Spider’s Blanket (2022, Director), Ampe: Leap Into the Sky, Black Girl (2022, Producer), Spirit (2021, co-director and co-producer).
Laura Castro is an actress, director, playwright, screenwriter, musician, cultural producer and feminist activist also campaigning for LGBTQIA+ causes. Laura directed her first TV series Arquis for HBO and HBO Max in 2021, and wrote, produced and performed in the film Our Children in 2019. She was nominated by Brazilian Congressman Jean Wyllys for the Citizen Woman award in 2016.
Laura is also a musician, and her latest album Coup in Time was released in 2019.
Jackson Gondo is a South African filmmaker known for his versatility on and off-camera as an actor, writer, director, editor, musician, and animator. Jackson’s first animated short film Unathi was featured at the 2021 Africa Rising International Film Festival. His French-language short film Silence won Best Film at the 2019 Wits Film Awards. Jackson has a Master of Arts in Film & Television degree obtained from Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa.
EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS
Peter Webber is an award-winning film and documentary director and producer. His debut feature film as a director was Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003). In 2019, he released the critical acclaimed Inna da Yard, a documentary feature following a group of pioneering reggae musicians. Peter has made a number of films reflecting his commitment to environmental causes including the award-winning environmental feature Earth, One Amazing Day.
Cat Villiers is an award-winning film producer, with career highlights including Oscar-nominated and Venice Golden Lion winner Before The Rain: Oscar and Golden Globe winner No Mans Land and acclaimed modern classic, The Proposition. Cat was also awarded the prestigious Heart of Sarajevo, for her services to cinema and is a founding trustee of the Katrin Cartlidge Foundation. Alongside her film career, she continues involvement in human rights activism for many issues.
Søren Kloch has worked in the film industry for more than forty years as a director, producer and director of photography. More recently he has specialised in digital workflows, initially heading the film department of a large London-based post-production house and now running his own company, Hokus Bogus, where he works with both documentary and fiction projects as a producer and consultant.
EDITORS
Jens Bidstrup is a graduate of The National Film School of Denmark. Over his 35-year career, he has worked across both documentary and fiction, primarily in Denmark, but also abroad. His documentary work includes a wide variety of formats and genres, from observational to scripted reality and has been screened at festivals, in the cinema and on television. Jens lives in Copenhagen.
